Raja Ampat Itinerary is mostly known for its extraordinary marine life and picture-perfect beaches. It might not be easy to decide which islands to visit during your trip there; nevertheless, we are certain that our itinerary will provide some helpful pointers. Over 1,500 individual islands make up the Raja Ampat archipelago, located in Indonesia's West Papua region. It may not be the simplest thing to travel to West Papua, and it takes some time, but it is well worth the effort since, at least for the time being, these challenges keep the crowds away, and you still have a chance to enjoy this beautiful corner of the planet nearly all to yourself.
Since we were coming from Thailand, our flight itinerary brought us first to Jakarta, where the majority of tourists are likely to pass through on their final destination of Sorong. From Jakarta, we continued to Raja Ampat.
We hired a cab to take us to the Sorong port, where we purchased ferry tickets and set sail towards Waisai. The boat leaves daily at nine in the morning and two in the afternoon, and the trip takes around two hours. When we finally got back on solid ground, local guesthouse owners approached us, and we decided to go with a man who had a property on Friwen Island, where we ended up going when the sun went down.
When we awoke in the morning, we found ourselves in an entirely other world compared to the one we had left the day before. The beach on Friwen Island is breathtakingly gorgeous, and what makes it even more special is that no one else was there when we went. The proprietor took us snorkelling to Friwen Wall in the afternoon, one of the most spectacular locations we've ever seen. The other day, we went on a stroll around the island, and at one point, we were joined by several adolescent island residents and went to one of the beaches on the other side of the island.
Our host took us sailing from Friwen to the neighbouring island of Kri early in the morning. Kri is a more populated and bigger island, although only in comparison to Raja Ampat's other islands. It took us approximately twenty minutes to climb from one side of the island, where we were staying, to the other side of the island over the hill in the centre of the island. In the afternoon, we went snorkelling close to the pier, where there was a remarkable variety of aquatic life.
The last day on Kri began with a laid-back morning, and in the afternoon, a boat transported us to Piaynemo, where we sunbathed on the pier and, to be honest, did nothing except enjoy the wonderful views.
We had never been to this remote location before, so we started by borrowing a kayak. It is required that you make the ascent to Piaynemo Lookout. Because the views from this outlook are so spectacular, we found ourselves returning to this location again and again. On the other days, our host took us out on the open sea to snorkel, where we could discover many secret coves and walk up the rocky hills to take in other breathtaking vistas.
Arborek seemed to have the most infrastructure constructed than the other three islands we went to. Even though Arborek is tiny, it is included in a government-run programme for tourist villages. Through this programme, the government promotes the island as a destination where visitors can learn about traditional lifestyles and purchase locally-made goods.
It was time to go back, so we boarded a tiny boat back to Waisai (we had run out of gasoline and may have sought someone who had a few gallons to give), where we changed over to the ferry that would take us to Sorong, where we slept for the night.
The only drawback was how taxing it was to get back to the hotel. It took us about two days since we had to wait a long time in Jakarta, and then we had a long trip from Jakarta to Munich. In addition, we were required to go by automobile from Munich to Prague in the Czech Republic. Despite the inconvenience of the lengthy trip, we would have revisited the area.
